Working in Retirement

Hi Folks,

Many folks that have already retired or are just getting ready to retire are discovering that they are going to have to supplement their retirement income with a “retirement job”. Working in retirement is not something most of us had planned on but it has n0w become a cold hard fact.

Well, maybe a job in retirement isn’t such a bad thing! In fact some working in retirement can be good - – if you have the right job.

Make Your Retirement Income Last

Hi Folks,

How are you holding up during all this financial upheaval? Or, more to the point, how is your retirement income holding up? icon smile Make Your Retirement Income Last

You know, the part of all this that bothers me most is that no one seems to known how to fix it. And if there is someone out there that does have a good plan to get us back on track he probably wouldn’t be heard.

EASY ADVICE ON RETIREMENT INCOME

Hi Folks,

I am not a financial advisor – I have a financial advisor (and a darn good one) but, for some reason, most of my friends (retired and those still working) do not use financial advisors. Some of them have stock brokers, some manage their own 401k accounts, some manage their savings using mutual fund accounts and, I’m not sure, but I think one of them uses the old “under the mattress” system icon smile EASY ADVICE ON RETIREMENT INCOME .

Lots of folks don’t like to discuss the way they manage their retirement money. I guess they think they would have to explain and/or defend their method of money management. But over the years I have collected a few pieces of good advice from these people (except from the guy with the lumpy mattress) about how they calculated their retirement income and expenses and whether they had enough to retire on. I am not going to try to explain these tidbits of advice, heck, the experts write books explaining these things. I’ll just pass them along to you.

Part Time Jobs For Retirees

Hi Folks,

I stopped by WalMart early yesterday morning to pick up some flowers as a nice surprise for my wife of 55 years.

At 6:00 am there are a lot of worker-bees putting out fresh fruit and polishing the floors but not many customers so there was only one check-out aisle open. And who do you suppose was minding the cash register? A very pleasant senior citizen. A gentleman who appeared to be in his early 70s.

The 4% Retirement Withdrawal Rule

Hi Folks,

When I was in my early 60s I began considering retirement. I invested in some very good retirement planning books and began searching the Internet for all the information about retirement I could find.

One piece of advice I consistently ran across was this: never withdraw more than 4% of your retirement savings in any one year. I calculated what 4% of my retirement savings would be and learned that I simply did not have enough to retire on.
