NEW FLU VACCINE FOR SENIORS

Hi folks,

Have you gotten your flu shot this fall? Flu season is here you know and the flu can be really, really hard on us seniors.

Surprisingly, every year I hear seniors say they forgot to get their flu shot or that they don’t trust them or make some other excuse for taking a chance on catching this life threatening illness.

A NEW WAY FOR SENIORS TO STAY FIT

Hi Folks,

Please don’t click off this article. Read it through and then take some time to think it through. This new fun way for seniors to stay fit may be just the thing you have been looking for as a way for having some great family time, stay fit and encourage your kids and grand-kids to enjoy keeping in shape.

Many seniors are more physically fit than their grown children and even their grandchildren so this is a great opportunity to encourage them to get fit while having fun. And your grand-kids will love teaching you about video games. What have you got to lose?

Americans 65 and Older Score Highest in Well-Being Survey

Good News Folks,

Older Americans lead all age groups in well-being according to the Gallup-Healthways Well-Being Index. The Gallup-Healthways Well-Being Index is the first and largest survey of its kind, with 1000 calls made each day, seven days a week, giving a daily measure of people’s well-being at the close of every day.

Well-Being is defined by Dictionary.com as:  a good or satisfactory condition of existence; a state characterized by health, happiness, and prosperity.

Rate of Macular Degeneration Decreasing

Hi Folks,

Good news! The rate of macular degeneration has decreased by more than 30% since 1994 according to a study conducted by Ronald Klein, MD, MPH, professor, Department of Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences, University of Wisconsin, Madison.

It was predicted that the number of cases of macular degeneration would increase as the population aged but improvement in diet, exercise and control of high blood pressure have reversed the predictions.

How Seniors Can Improve Their Brain

Hey Senior, have you exercised your brain today?

 Hi Folks,

You may have heard me say this before but I’ll say it again:  Seniors, you must exercise your body and you must exercise your brain if you want to remain physically and mentally fit.

This has been proven so often and in so many ways that it is ridiculous to even think about question this fact. Yet I have friends that make every excuse they can think of to not exercise or  learn new things.  Then they complain about not feeling well and being sooo forgetful.

SENIORS, HOW TO BE HEALTHIER IN 2010

Senior Exercise = Healthy Seniors

Hi Folks,

I never fail to be amazed at seniors that refuse to exercise even though it is a proven fact that exercise adds quality and quantity to our senior years.

We have an exercise program for seniors in my church with a leader that is dedicated to senior health. He’s in his upper seventies and in better shape than most men 25 years younger. We exercise three days a week, have the best ole time you can imagine, and there is no charge, but do you know what? Even though we have a large senior church membership we have less than 20 church members in our group (we do have several members in our group that are not members of our church).

Four Steps To Better Health

Want to cut your risk of developing diabetes, heart attack, stroke and cancer by 80% without drugs?
Here’s how.

  • Never smoke
  • Engage in physical activity such as sports and bicycle-riding for at least 3.5 hours each week (I’m sure that would also include walking and moderate exercise)
  • Eat a diet low in red meat and high in fruits and vegetables
  •  Have a body mass index lower than 30. (A person with a BMI of 30 or above is classed as obese.)
