STAYCATIONS – stress free, relaxing, money saving and fun
Hi Folks,
Would you like to have a wonderful, stress free vacation without spending a ton of money? Then take a staycation!
A staycation is a “stay-at-home vacation” – a holiday from the ordinary to relax and give you and your family a break from the ordinary while staying home or nearby.

STAYCATIONS for retirees
Hi Folks,
Well, we’re back from our spring vacation to Myrtle Beach, SC, which, by the way, may be our only “away” vacation this year.
Oh for the good old days when I was working (and for the first few years after I retired) when we took spring and fall trips all over the country seeing our beautiful land. But alas, no more. A couple years after I retired our financial advisor said no more money for trips but Janie and I had some stock that he didn’t know about (gosh, I hope he doesn’t read this) so we sold it and set up a special vacation account. Not much but a few hundred dollars a year for a few years. We learned how to stretch our vacation dollars and take a trip to the beach in the spring and the mountains in the fall but that money is about all gone so we’ll probably keep what’s left to spend on “staycations”. We enjoy vacations away from home but staycations are also a real delight.
Are you familiar with staycations? Have you ever tried one? If you like to take breaks from the everyday but don’t have the money for a vacation or want to save your money or don’t want the hassle of taking an “away trip”, staycation is the way to go.

Single Senior Travel – Save Money and Stay Safe!
Hi Folks,
Well, spring will soon be here (not soon enough for me!) so it’s time to be thinking about all those wonderful places you would like visit this summer – and determine if you can afford to go
.
I have a lot of senior friends that are single. And I go on many senior trips where there are lots of singles. Singles really enjoy their trips and vacations but they do have to use different methods for planning and executing their travel than couples.

Tips For Senior Travel
Hi Folks,
Well, here it is, the beginning of February and (at my house) time to start planning our 2011 vacations and trips.
Janie and I always start planning our vacations early in the year so we can 1. determine how much money we can set aside for travel this year 2. determine what we would like to do and where we would like to go, given the amount of money we have budgeted 3. have plenty of time to research the best times to go and places to visit and lock in the best lodging and show values 4. work our schedule around all the other “nice weather” activities we enjoy.

Budget Travel Bargains
Hi Folks,
Well, all the young people will be headed back to school in a few days leaving more space on the highways for us older folks
. Yippee. I just love to travel after the kids have gone back to school. It’s still warm, the tourist places are still open, and it’s not crowded.
Which brings up a question - have you saved enough money for a late summer trip?

Tips To Thwart Identity Thieves When traveling
Hi Folks,
Are you all set for your next road trip or quick get-away? Have you protected yourself against all the baddies out there that are intent on steeling your money and your identity? You should be.
I wonder just how many vacations are ruined each year by thieves preying on decent folks that are out having a good time.

Wonderful Ideas for a Cheap Vacation
Hi Folks,
Ahhh, vacation time; the open road, the beach, the mountains, visiting children and grand kids. Getting away for a while sounds great, doesn’t it?
Fact is, many folks - retired and working – can’t afford a vacation. Or so they think.

Frugal Travel for Seniors
Hi Folks,
Well, it’s that time again - time to plan your trips to visit the kids, old friends, the beach, one of our wonderful national parks, or a great road trip. . . If you can afford it.
Sometimes the difference between taking a trip and having to stay home is watching the cost. Personally, I would much rather take a vacation where I have to watch what I spend than to have to stay home.
Today’s author has some great tips for saving money on travel. What you can save may be the difference between going and staying.

Thrifty Travel For Retirees
Hi Folks,
One of the most often listed goals for retirees is travel. Most of us put that right up at the top of our list. Janie and I love to travel. There are so many wonderful places we still want to visit but alas, we are like so many other retirees – short on travel funds.
Over the years we have had some great vacations – some expensive, some not so expensive, but mostly budget. Not cheap mind you, but budget. We don’t camp, we don’t stay at hostels and we don’t stay two blocks from the beach. There isn’t anything wrong with those type of vacations but we personally don’t enjoy them. It’s important to know what you like, how much money you can afford and plan around it. Janie and I know what we enjoy doing and we budget for it and if we can’t afford it, we don’t go!

Budget Travel
Hi Folks,
Have you taken your first trip for 2010? Spring is in the air and it just sorta’ calls many of us seniors to the open road.
Janie and I took our first trip last month. Up into the Smokies. It was a short trip, only four days, but short trips generally don’t cost as much as longer ones, leaving money for another get-a-way soon.
We’re big fans of VRBO (Vacation Rentals By Owners). I’ll tell you a little about VRBO in the coming days.
