5 Golden Rules For Things To Do In Retirement
Hi Folks,
It’s been a while since I have printed an article by Susan Kersley. Shame on me. This doctor turned life coach has so many encouraging words of wisdom to pass on to us seniors that I should publish an article a week written by her.
In this article she is directing her words to folks that have not yet retired but truth is these “5 golden rules for things to do in retirement” apply just as much to retirees as to pre-retirees.

When Retirement Doesn’t Work
Hi Folks,
Are you enjoying your retirement? Do you look forward to waking up almost every morning with the great feeling that you are going to do what you want to do today and enjoy every minute of it?
Or do you have lots of days when you wake up and miss having a job to go to and the responsibilities that come with it?

Retirement Living, Staying Connected With Family And Friends
Hi Folks,
I published the following article by Dee Cascio in “Woody’s Retirement Blog“ a couple years ago. But as it is such an important article and as Retirenment On A Budget get’s so many more visitors than Woody’s Retirement Blog, I thought I should re-publish her article here so that more retired folks could learn from the wisdom of this little piece.
Mr and Ms Retiree, have you noticed how quickly you lose contact with your old workmates and friends still in the work force after you retire? All of a sudden you no longer have the same thing in common – work.

No bosses to please, no deadlines to meet, no quotas to fill – except your own. A gift that millions of people around the world are dreaming about.
If you are retired (or planning retirement) please don’t miss this wonderful opportunity to really experience life and do some of the things you didn’t have time for when you were employed.

SENIORS, SOCIALIZING IS IMPORTANT!
Age Is No Excuse Not To Be Sociable!
Hi Folks,
Please let me say that again, age is no excuse not to be sociable! Many people in their sixties and above often use their age as an excuse not to socialize, citing that various activities should be left up to younger generations. This is definitely not the case. You are never too old to get out and about and socialize and there are thousands of great groups out there to get you involved in various activities and outings. In fact, when you pass a certain age and no longer work, socializing is often the only chance you get to see existing friends and make new ones. These friends should not be overlooked because they form as tight a support network as any other age group, often more so in fact! Don’t forget that you can never have too many friends.
Socializing should be an essential part of your post-retirement routine. Many seniors tend to keep to themselves after retirement, but they are the ones who are missing out as life passes them by. Contrary to popular belief, socializing does not have to be a daily activity. You can get out as little or as often as you like, depending obviously on what suits you. For a lack of a better way of putting it, the senior scene is much the same as that of the younger generation – you have your regulars and those that stay on the periphery of any group. You can choose to be either.

Senior Security
Hi Folks,
If you watch the news or read the newspapers regularly then you know that crime rates have risen dramatically in most urban, suburban and rural areas in the last ten years. Members of our society perpetrate some heinous crimes, and reading about them is extremely unsettling, especially if you are classed as vulnerable and have very little means of defending yourself. Seniors are especially vulnerable, but you can take steps to protect yourself and increase your personal security. This involves no financial outlay and is mostly common sense, which can be exercised with very little effort.
Firstly, get to know all of your neighbors. Becoming friendly with those who live close to you is perhaps the best way to protect yourself. A lot of seniors tend to isolate themselves, and this happens for a variety of reasons. Maybe they live in a neighborhood that is constantly changing, with families or individuals moving in and out on a regular basis, or maybe they are not able to get out of the house very often and thus are virtually unknown in the area. However, by making the effort to get to know those in your street, you are building bonds with those best equipped to look out for you. People are more likely to jump to your rescue should anything happen if they know and care about you. Joining or forming a Neighborhood Watch committee would have the same effect, as well as getting you involved in the community.

How to Avoid a Failed Retirement
Hi Folks,
In our younger years we knew that if we failed in our career or business choices we had the time to bounce back and start over. And many of us did - we picked ourselves up, dusted ourselves off and started all over again. But now that we are in our senior years – we simply don’t have the time and stamina to recognize our mistakes and make a new start . . . well, at least not a completely new start.
Sort of scary, isn’t it? And a bit sad. A failed retirement is not an option!

Retirement – When Every Day’s A Weekend
Hi Folks,
As I have mentioned before in these pages I spend a great deal of time researching information about seniors and retirement and I also spend time observing retired folks – their actions and activities. Lately I have become increasingly more concerned with what I am seeing in the retirement community. This is probably nothing new, mind you, just a new awareness on my part.
I am seeing retirees age way beyond their years in just a few months. And for no obvious reason.

Retirement Home Options
Hi Folks,
Sorry I have not been keeping up my little blog of late but I have had the worse case of the flu I have had in years. Janie and I get a flu shot each fall with great results but it didn’t work this year!
So, to celebrate my “coming out of sickness” post I will offer an article about a subject that I don’t like, Retirement Homes”.
