Be Cautious About Giving Info To Census Workers
Hi Folks,
With the U.S. Census process beginning, The Better Business Bureau (BBB) advises people to be cooperative, but cautious, so as not to become a victum of fraud or identity theft.
The first phase of the 2010 U.S. Census is under way as workers have begun verifying the addresses of households across the country. Eventually, more than 140,000 U.S. Census workers will count every person in the United States and will gather information about every person living at each address including name, age, gender, race and other relevant data. The big question is – how do you tell the difference between a U.U. Census worker and a con artist. The Better Business Bureau (http://www.bbb.org/us/consumers/) offers the following advice. To read the entire article go to http://www.bbb.org/us/article/bbb-alerts-consumers-about-us-census-workers-be-cooperative-but-cautious-10306 .
• If a U.S. Census worker knocks on your door, they will have a badge, a handheld device, a Census Bureau canvas bag and a confidentiality notice. Ask to see their identification and their badge before answering their questions. However, you should never invite anyone you don’t know into your home.

Jobs For Retirees At Parks, Resorts, Lodges, Ranches
Hi Folks,
While I was doing some research for my other website www.ExtraIncomeEzine.com, I ran across a great site you just have to visit if you are considering an adventurist type job, http://www.coolworks.com/. CoolWorks specialize in listing jobs in national and state parks, at resorts, lodges, etc, etc. The great thing is they have one section just for retirees called “Older and Bolder”, http://www.coolworks.com/older-bolder/. You have got to check this site out.
I passed this information on to Ivan who wrote, asking about vacationing/working/volunteering in our national parks. I hope he keeps us informed about how well he is doing.

Four Steps To Better Health
Want to cut your risk of developing diabetes, heart attack, stroke and cancer by 80% without drugs?
Here’s how.
- Never smoke
- Engage in physical activity such as sports and bicycle-riding for at least 3.5 hours each week (I’m sure that would also include walking and moderate exercise)
- Eat a diet low in red meat and high in fruits and vegetables
- Have a body mass index lower than 30. (A person with a BMI of 30 or above is classed as obese.)

NAPS ARE REALLY, REALLY GOOD FOR YOU!
Hi Folks,
I have been reading a lot about napping lately. It is such an interesting and important subject that I want to pass along some of the things I have learned and give you the links to some articles that go into real depth on the subject of napping. Of course if you are not interested in in-depth information on napping, you can just take my word that napping is good for you and go take a nap.
New scientific evidence shows that a midday nap not only improves your alertness, creativity, mood and productivity later in the day but also contributes to your overall health. . . And to think that for years in the USA naps have been looked upon as a sign of laziness and weakness!

Coffee May Treat & Prevent Memory Loss!
Hi All,
I just read a very interesting little item in the November, 2009 issue of Readers Digest (my favorite magazine) and want to pass it along to you folks.
According to the Journal of Alzheimer’s Disease, drinking five cups of coffee a day may treat as well as prevent memory loss! The study (in mice with Alzheimer’s symptons) shows that coffee directly reduces brain levels of amyloid proteins that characterize alzheimer’s.
This is especially good news for coffee lovers like me. . . Now where did I leave my coffee cup?

Prepare your house for winter weather
Hi Folks,
We all know that winter is on its way and that a little work now can save you a lot of misery and money later on but countless people will put off these simple chores until winter catches them. Well, they won’t be able to say I didn’t warn them!
This following article covers some areas not mentioned in the other articles I published on preparing for winter and the writer also recommends installing a standby generator. My next door neighbor had an emergency generator installed a few years ago but other than testing it, I don’t believe he has ever had to use it. I live in upstate South Carolina where the winters are mild so a standby generator would be a luxury for me, but for you folks living further north, an emergency generator might not be a bad idea.

COST & ENERGY SAVING TIPS: Home Insulation
Hi Folks,
Sorry I have been absent from these pages for a few days. Fall is here in upstate South Carolina which, for me, equates to getting the lawn ready for winter. Yea gads, what a job! De-thatch, aerate, fertilize, over-seed. Frankly, when I came in from working outside, I was too tired to work on this blog.
I keep telling Janie that I’m getting too old for all this work but she just grins, she knows me better.
Have a great autumn,

COST & ENERGY SAVING TIPS – heating your home
Hi Folks,
Today’s article serves more of a warning of increasing energy costs than offering usable how-to advice, but being reminded of what is coming is the first step in preparing.
We’ll look into this more in the coming days.
